Saladin Martin went to Lincoln High, in San Diego, in the early ’70s, and then was a reserve back for the Niners’ 1981 team. He picked up an interception in that season, then left the NFL and went back to Lincoln as a coach and security manager. He said about Lincoln: “I bleed green, I’m a Hornet for life.”
Talking about the football playing students at Lincoln, he said: “I think it will take a little time to convince them, but I’ve been to the top of the hill. I’ve been to the Super Bowl (49ers), so I’ve lived it. I know what can be done, and all the others who have achieved at that level know it can be done.”
On a Chargers forum board in late 2005, one poster said this about Martin: “Saladin was one of my students when I taught there 1973-1976. In case you are not aware of him, he played on the 49ers Super Bowl team. He was a real nice young man. Marcus was there during my tenure, but he was not in my class. His was a class act at all times. One of my favorite NFL players of all time.”
