I saw this game at Candlestick Park. H.S. buddy-rival, Jerry Attaway from Susanville helped put everyone “back together” as the fitness/strength and rehab coach for SF, as I watched what truly was the Super Bowl that year. Only attending the ND/LSU game in Baton Rouge in ’71 did I ever see a more electric crowd than the one that day in San Francisco, as they went on to crush the San Diego Chargers in the Super Bowl.
Almost as good as the game itself was reading Scott Ostler’s lead in the ‘Chronicle’ the following day, which went something like: “The 49ers didn’t just talk the talk– they walked the walk; ran the run, passed the pass, intercepted the Troy, and kicked the butt.” Priceless stuff.
