Pillers, yet another Mississippi native on the 1981 Niners, was a deputy sheriff in Port Gibson during the offseason. He had a whopping 12 blocked punts in college, at Alcorn State. A Jet from 1976 through 1980, he remained with the Niners at defensive end through 1984, then wound up his career with the Falcons in 1985. A Chronicle profile of him in 2006 revealed that he had done a few different business ventures since retiring from the NFL, including trucking, a Subway store, an Easter Seals director in Florida, the psychology department of Mississippi State Hospital, and the director of Pillers of Strength, a company to aid the disabled.
