Davis, a fullback who scored seven touchdowns for the 1981 49ers, went to Alabama and then played for the Bucs, but was traded for James Owens. 1981 was his lone year in the Bay Area: he went on to play 1982 through 1987 for the Browns. He became an advertising sales manager, professional pianist, and motivational speaker. Davis also holds annual football camps for kids in the New York City area.
He said of an early encounter with Bill Walsh: “He said ‘what can you do?’ and I said ‘I can’t catch.’ He said, ‘But what can you do well?’”
